Volusia County Schools is actively preparing for the start of school, and we have created this website as a resource for families, employees and the greater community.
School Year Start Delayed to August 31, 2020 in Volusia County
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Volusia County School Board has voted to delay the start of the students’ school year to Monday, Aug. 31, 2020. The School Board has approved an innovative fall reopening plan with safety measures in place and options for families and teachers.
Volusia County Schools Reopening in Fall with Three Learning Options
The three Learning Options are summarized below, and more detail is available on the Learning Options page and other tabs on the VCS site. To help VCS properly plan, parents and guardians are asked to complete a pre-registration form for each child enrolled in VCS no later than 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2020.
Parents Must Register Children for their Learning Option by July 28, 2020
Parent Information Sessions will be held virtually July 23, July 24, with both morning and afternoon sessions, and July 27 in the afternoon.
We will remain agile and will adapt as needed to make 2020-2021 a successful year! We invite our students, parents, teachers, staff and community partners to work together with us as a team to create life-long learners prepared for an ever-changing global society. Together, We Are Stronger!
1. Traditional Classroom Setting (as directed by FLDOE) with Health & Safety Guidelines
Students will be in school five days a week, as directed by the Florida Department of Education, with health and safety guidelines in place.
2. Volusia Live (real-time live streaming) with Student’s School of Enrollment (pending approval of FLDOE)
This option is pending approval by the Florida Department of Education. Students will remain at home but follow the same daily class schedule as their classmates who are in traditional school. Students will participate in classroom instruction by logging in on a device, and engaging with their teacher and classmates virtually, by using platforms such as Zoom or Teams (real-time live streaming). These students are expected to log in and out on time for class every day. They are also expected to engage in classroom activities. Attendance will be taken.
3. Enhanced Volusia Online Learning
This is an at-your-own pace, virtual option that has been available to VCS students for years. Volusia County teachers provide instruction in flexible formats. There is not a set schedule. Extra-curricular activities and clubs are available. Enrollment ends July 31, 2020. Please visit volusiaonlinelearning.com for more information.
Thank you for working with Volusia County Schools during these challenging times. As always, we appreciate your patience in this unusual time.
