Happy Veteran’s Day. Happy Independence Day. Those are “happy” holidays. Memorial Day is not. Memorial Day is defined as an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, that honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It is a memorial. It is not a celebration. When I see “HAPPY” Memorial Day posts, or someone says “HAPPY” Memorial Day to me I will be honest it makes me not only want to correct them, but it makes me sad. Many of us look at is as a day off, a day to drink and cook out and go boating or hit the beach. That is all fine, but let’s remember why you have the ability to do those things. Someone died, and their family lost them to protect that freedom.

So, have a safe, pleasant and peaceful Memorial Day.
